Verdi By Janeel Cannon

VERDI By JANEEL CANNON

This months book review is a little different. Instead of looking at the newest craze in husbandry and breeding, I chose a book that may appeal to a different (and perhaps younger) crowd. Verdi is a beautifully illustrated children's book about a baby green tree python. Born bright yellow (as many green tree pythons are) he doesn't understand the appeal of growing up into a green, lazy grown-up python. Verdi is happy with his bright yellow skin and sporty stripes, and decides he simply won?t grow up and turn green. The hijinks that ensue are funny, and will bring a smile to the face of even the most seasoned herpetologist.

After the story, Cannon includes a brief history of snakes in the wild, which not only ties together her story with the natural phenomena that inspired it, but also offers a word about conservation that I believe will ring true to both children and adults.

In typical children's book fashion, Verdi is large format, and hard bound, with many colorful illustrations (all of which were done by the author in acrylic and colored pencil). This is truly the perfect holiday gift for the young (or young at heart) herper in your life. Pick up your copy today from www.lllreptile.com and get it in time for Christmas!
